Testing Avoidance Information

This avoidance sheet is for established patients only

This will take about 30 minutes with the nurse followed by 15 minutes with the Doctor.
A parent/legal guardian must be present with children under 18 years unless we have prior written authorization.

Prior to each visit DO NOT take the medications shown in the following list:

For Skin Testing
72 HOURS PRIOR (3 DAYS)
Dephenhydramine = Benadryl
Tripelennamine = Polaramine
Clemastine = Tavist
Brompheniramine= Bromfed,Dimetapp
Chlorpheniramine=Chlortrimeton,Rynatan
Pheniramine = Ru-Tuss, Triaminic
Triprolidine = Actifed
Meclizine = Dramamine, Bonine
Azatadine = Trinalin
Phenindamine = Nolahist, Nolamine
Promethazine = Phenergan
EYE DROPS- Livostin, Optivar, Elestat

*Over the counter meds that state PM, ask pharmacist if it has antihistamine

For Skin Testing
72 HOURS PRIOR (con'd)
Ranitidine = Zantac
Nizatidine = Axid
Cimetidine = Tagamet
Famotidine = Pepcid
Seroquel
96 HOURS PRIOR (4 DAYS)
Hydroxyzine = Atarax, Vistaril
1 WEEK PRIOR
Loratadine = Claritin
Desloratadine =Clarinex
Fexofenadine = Allegra
Cetirizine = Zyrtec
Zyprexa, Xyzal
Remeron
2 WEEKS PRIOR
Azelastine = Asteline nasal spray
For PFT (pulmonary function test)
AVOID the following 8 hours prior:
Proventil, Ventolin, Maxair,
Atrovent, Xopenex and albuterol
AVOID 12 hours prior:
Serevent, Advair, Foradil & Symbicort
AVOID 24 hours prior:
Spiriva
Bring your Albuterol (Proventil or Ventolin) with for PFT
* You may continue to use nasal sprays
   (except Asteline) and decongestants.
* Wear a short sleeved shirt for skin test
* No fever in last 24-48 hours
* If you have a fever or asthma related
   symptoms, call prior to appointment
* Remember: 24 hours notice to cancel
   appointment
